The Cleveland Browns have been having a spirited quarterback competition so far to start NFL training camp. With four players competing for the Week 1 starting job, there are a lot of questions and opinions swirling about who will be the first man up.

Joe Flacco seems to have a leg up on the competition, especially due to Kenny Pickett’s injury. Both Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are battling to get playing time during their rookie years.

While he seems to be the lowest man on the totem pole right now, Sanders has been the most talked about players in the Browns’ quarterback room.

Many fans and media members believe that Sanders has the highest potential out of anyone in the competition. However, there are also many who think he’s going to be a bust.

With that in mind, head coach Kevin Stefanski spoke out with an update about how Sanders has fared so far in training camp action.

As shared by Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, Stefanksi revealed that Sanders has been working hard. He did not give an update about where the rookie signal caller stands in the competition.

“I’m not going to get in specifics on the players and where they’re getting reps, those type of things,” Stefanski said. “He’s working extremely hard. All those guys are. We’re still not yet through the installation schedule. We’re still just introducing two-minute yesterday. We’ll introduce some different distances today situationally. So I wouldn’t really think much past that.”

Basically, there is no indication at this point who the starting quarterback will be. Cleveland will likely take that decision much closer to Week 1.

There is no denying the pure talent that Sanders brings to the field. He has a lot of raw talent that will need to be developed, but he has the potential to be a franchise quarterback for the Browns.

Cleveland will not force Sanders onto the field. Stefanski and the coaching staff wants to do things the right way. It does seem likely that Sanders will see the field at some point in 2025, but no one knows when that could be.

Expect to continue hearing a lot of rumors, speculation, and opinions about the Browns’ quarterback competition. Sanders will continue being a hot topic of conversation around the NFL.
