PHOENIX — A man who is accused of shooting and killing the mother of his child last week at a Chandler apartment complex has now been identified, authorities announced Tuesday.
Jaren Jeandre Varnrobinson, 25, is facing a charge of second-degree murder related to domestic violence in relation to the shooting, which happened on Friday evening.
What led up to woman’s death, man’s arrest at Chandler apartment complex?
Officers were called to an apartment complex near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard, just north of downtown Chandler, at about 5 p.m. on Friday.
A caller reported hearing an argument, which was followed by something that sounded like a gunshot.
After arriving at the complex, police noticed the door to an apartment was open. Officers went inside, found a woman who was unresponsive and pulled her outside.
The woman, who has now been identified as 23-year-old Jadyn Angelica Rose Acker, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Varnrobinson’s mother, who was inside the apartment, told officers she saw her son shoot Acker and that he was barricaded inside a bathroom.
The Chandler Police Department’s SWAT Team was called to the scene. It was able to take Varnrobinson into custody with the use of less-lethal weapons and a police K9.
Police said a handgun and a spent shell casing were found inside the apartment. They also learned that Varnrobinson and Acker were in a relationship and had a child together.
No details were released on what led up to the shooting.
The investigation remains open.
