FanSided’s Quinn Everts recently put together a blockbuster trade idea that would send Minnesota Twins stars Joe Ryan and Griffin Jax to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for top prospects Harry Ford, Felnin Celesten, and Tyler Locklear.
“In Minnesota, though, Ford could have a chance to start out splitting time at catcher with Ryan Jeffers and eventually taking over the position for himself,” Everts wrote. “He might be the perfect blend of upside and readiness that the Twins are looking for if they don’t want to fully tear it all down at the deadline. Or, even if they do, Ford is a nice building block to start with in 2026.
“Celesten has a chance to be a building block in his own right. Seattle’s No. 6-ranked prospect is also on the MLB Top 100 and although he’s struggled a bit at Single-A this year, he’s talented enough that Minnesota could still bank on him being an impact big leaguer in a few years. Throw in Tyler Locklear, who is just outside of the Top 100 list, and the Twins might be willing to toss in Griffin Jax on their end.”
But would this idea make sense?
The short answer is no, it probably doesn’t make sense for both sides.
The Mariners could cut ties with these prospects to land two team-controlled stars, but the Twins have no reason to trade Ryan right now.
Ryan is under team control beyond this season, and the Twins are on the brink of contending. If Minnesota is to trade him, it would need to be a massive haul. While there’s a lot of talent involved in this blockbuster trade idea, the Twins would likely need five or six prospects in total to consider trading Ryan and Jax together.
Value-wise, it might not be too far off, but it’s very unlikely the Twins would cut ties with two very valuable assets in exchange for three prospects in return.
