New York City Mayor Eric Adams has eulogized the officer killed in a mass shooting in Manhattan, saying on X he “died as he lived, a hero.”
A gunman armed with an M4 assault rifle on Monday evening killed four people, including New York Police Department (NYPD) officer, Didarul Islam, 36, and wounded another in the attack that rattled a midtown Manhattan office building, authorities said.
“He was saving lives. He was protecting New Yorkers,” Adams, who spent 22 years as an NYPD officer prior to becoming involved in politics, said in a press conference. “He embodies what this city is all about. He’s a true-blue New Yorker, not only in a uniform he wore.”
