Bollywood crowd pleaser Saiyaara was at no. 9 in week 2. Pete Davidson-starring The Home topped $1 million.
Oh, Hi! debuted at $1.13 million on 866 screens, The bleakly comedic look at modern dating was written and directed by Sophie Brooks and stars Molly Gordon, Logan Lerman, Geraldine Viswanathan and John Reynolds. It follows nice runs for SPC of Jane Austen Wrecked My Life ($1.9 million domestic) and Don’t Let’s Go To The Dogs Tonight, still in theaters and looking at an estimated $62k on 83 screens in week 3 for a cume of $446k.
Saiyaara from Yas Raj Films USA powered to a cume of $3.24 million in week 2, according to Comscore, after the Bollywood romance by Mohit Suri booked an estimated $1.28 million over the weekend on 215 screens. The love story of young Vaani and Krish, through passionate moments and devastating setbacks, launches Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda “as the next YRF hero and heroine respectively,” says YRF. Fewer Indian films have broken into the top ten lately so this is notable, especially for a second week holdover.
Pete Davidson-starring horror thriller The Home from Roadside Attractions opened to a cool $1 million on 1,015 screens.
House On Eden from IFC Films, a found footage horror from social media stars Kris Collins and Celina Myers (known as KallMeKris and CelinaSpookyBoo) debuted at $310k on 600 screens.
A24’s Eddington, the latest from Ari Aster, is eyeing a $1.6 million second weekend at 2,065 locations for an $8.1 million cume and a no. 8 spot.
Limited openings: Michael Winterbottom’s Shoshana is at a $44k opening weekend on 56 screens.
In its second weekend, Sideshow/Janus Films’ release of Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Cloud expanded to LA’s Landmark’s Nuart grossing an estimated $22.9k on 3 screens for a cume of $63.2k. Expands to top 20 markets next week. Kurosawa was honored this week as the recipient of the Cut Above Award at Japan Society’s Japan Cuts Festival.
Oscilloscope Labs’ coming-of-age debut Diciannove by Giovanni Torotorici had an $18.2k weekend at three locations — New York’s Angelika Film Center and Laemmle’s Glendale and Monica Film Center in LA.
AJ Goes To The Dog Park, Toby Jones’ oddball comedy from Music Box Films, grossed $13.5k on 32 screens.
