PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department said officers arrested a Somerville man for having drugs and other items in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

PPD said on July 26, around 6 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Point Mallard Parkway “due to several infractions, including an expired tag dating back to 2020.”

The department said the driver was identified as 40-year-old Daniel Vinson.

Following the traffic stop, officers determined there was probable cause to initiate a drug investigation.

Officers reportedly found six ounces of Kratom, a number of Clonazepam pills, drug paraphernalia and a firearm in Vinson’s possession.

PPD said Kratom is known to produce effects similar to both opioids and stimulants. In May 2016, Alabama prohibited Kratom, classifying its active alkaloids, mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, as Schedule I controlled substances, thereby banning its sale, possession and use.

Vinson was arrested and taken to the Morgan County Jail, where he faces two separate charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The department said that due to Vinson’s previous history of failing to appear in court, Morgan County Circuit Judge Jennifer Howell set his bond at $81,000.
