Phoenix remains the No. 3 seed in the league at the moment despite a three-game losing streak. The most recent loss came on Friday when the team fell 89-76 to the New York Liberty. Phoenix shot just 23.3 percent from 3-point range in the loss, with Satou Sabally going 0-for-6 from deep and shooting 23.1 percent overall.
The Mercury lost despite another strong game from Alyssa Thomas, who had 20 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists to go along with two steals. Thomas is playing at an MVP level, but her teammates have struggled over this losing streak.
The Mystics have defied all expectations this year. Expected to be one of the league’s worst teams, the rookie duo of Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen has helped the team be competitive. If the season ended now, the Mystics would be the No. 7 seed in the playoffs, one spot ahead of one of the preseason favorites, Las Vegas.
Washington is coming off a 69-58 win over the Storm, the team’s second win over Seattle this month.
