With Aiden back in Carrie’s life on And Just Like That…, one man has gone the way of Skipper Johnston.

After appearing on the first two seasons of HBO Max‘s Sex and the City continuation as Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) friend and podcast co-host Jackie Nee, Bobby Lee recently addressed his absence from Season 3.

“Some of the woke elements of the show, they got rid of, and I think I was a part of that,” Lee told Entertainment Weekly. “I think Sara [Ramirez] didn’t come back and some other people. They tried to put minorities in, and — I don’t know. I never saw the show.”

In February 2024, Deadline reported that Ramirez would not reprise their role as Miranda’s (Cynthia Nixon) non-binary comedian love interest Che Díaz in Season 3. The next month, Karen Pittman also exited her role as Columbia Law School professor, Dr. Nya Wallace.

With the revival of the 1998-2004 HBO series, the writers and actors previously celebrated And Just Like That… for its diversity and inclusion ahead of its 2021 premiere.

In the show’s defense, Season 2 wrapped up Carrie’s podcast storyline as the production studio is sold, ending her professional ties to co-hosts Jackie and Che, as well as to podcast producer and love interest Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez).

“Number one, I don’t even know why they asked,” said Lee of his casting. “And I was super scared to do it. Because it wasn’t my brand, really. You know what I mean? But I did it. I walked through the fear.”

Regardless, Lee enjoyed his time on the series. “Sarah Jessica Parker is the nicest person I’ve ever met. She made me feel so at ease. I like everyone on there. It was fun. I never have bad blood with anybody. You know what I mean? I am nice. I show up on time,” he explained.

As Lee promotes his debut graphic novel Deadweight at Comic-Con, new episodes of And Just Like That… are available to stream Thursdays at 9pm ET on HBO Max.
