Studiocanal has announced it is partnering with new French production company Grands Ducs Films, founded by César-winning actor, director, playwright, novelist and filmmaker Alex Lutz.

Lutz, whose credits include his César-winning performance in musical film Guy, is launching the company with associates Hadrien Bichet and Thomas Santucci to develop and produce their own films and TV series.

The partnership with Studiocanal builds on previous collaborations with Lutz which include Thanks To My Friends (Le Talent de mes Amis) (2015), Guy (2018), Strangers By Night (Une Nuit) (2023) and Connemara, which debuted in Cannes Premiere this year.

Lutz has also worked on numerous other projects with Canal+, including cult comedy sketch show Catherine et Liliane, which he created and was broadcast from 2012 to 2019. He also wrote and directed the  Canal+ tv movie, La Vengeance Au Triple Galop.

Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh said the partnership marked a natural progression in the company’s relationship with Lutz and his associates.

“On behalf of Studiocanal, I warmly congratulate Alex Lutz on the creation of Grands Ducs Films,” she said.

“We have enjoyed a close and rewarding relationship with Alex for many years, and are thrilled to support him, Hadrien Bichet and Thomas Santucci, demonstrating our continued commitment to collaborating with inspiring talent.”

Lutz said the creation of Grands Ducs Films marked a next step in his already prolific career.

“For me, Grands Ducs Films is above all a company that will offer me greater autonomy in developing ideas that come to me and those desires that truly inspire me as a writer, director, and actor,” he said.

“It is also the perfect continuation of a story that has been in the making for many years with the Canal+ group and Studiocanal, and one which demonstrates mutual trust and loyalty. I’m incredibly grateful to Maxime Saada and Anna Marsh for their support. We already have a lot of projects in mind and are very excited about the future.”
