Red Sox Predicted To Cut Ties With Talented Top Prospect In Deadline Trade

The Boston Red Sox seem bound to be one of the more aggressive teams at the trade deadline, whether it’s as buyers, sellers or a mix of both.

Boston could chase some controllable pitchers on the market as it looks to build a team that can win right now and in the future. But in deals for valuable pieces, the Red Sox will need to give up some valuable prospects of their own.

Katie Manganelli of Bo Sox Injection recently predicted the Red Sox would cut ties with talented outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia in a trade ahead of the upcoming deadline.

“The Red Sox’s outfield logjam of Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Roman Anthony, Masataka Yoshida and Rob Refsnyder has been the subject of much trade speculation,” Manganelli wrote. “Multiple teams reportedly have their eye on Duran or Abreu, but Boston may keep its major league outfield intact for the rest of this season. If it does, Jhostynxon Garcia could be its prime trade candidate.”

“Garcia’s recent success and new top prospect status could make him a great return for other clubs interested in trading with Boston. Trading him would also open a roster spot for one of the Sox’s deadline additions, although it shouldn’t be done hastily.”

If the Red Sox are going to make a big splash, as it appears they will, they’re going to have to use big bait on the trade block. Garcia would be that big bait.

He’s a top 100 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, for a reason. But the Red Sox don’t have room for him in Boston because of their loaded outfield.

Using Garcia as a trade chip could be the headliner in a deal for a star pitcher. Somebody like Edward Cabrera or Mitch Keller comes to mind because they’re controllable beyond 2025.

Either way, Garcia is probably the first name the Red Sox will use on the trade market when chasing the better players in the league.
