BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Stallions Head Coach Skip Holtz addressed the media Wednesday at the Stallions youth football clinic amid speculation surrounding the team’s future in Birmingham.

“This is our home, we’re the Birmingham Stallions and we’re putting together a 2026 team for the Birmingham Stallions,” said Coach Holtz.

Coach Holtz said he first heard about the speculations Tuesday night after it was reported that the Stallions are one of four teams potentially moving to different cities for the 2026 season.

“Somebody put some, a speculation out there and everybody is trying to respond to it right now. I think the response is to keep going until somebody tells us different,” said Coach Holtz.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin also spoke out about the speculations, sharing a statement on Facebook Wednesday:

We’ve heard the rumors from unofficial sources and have been assured by the league that no final decisions have been made about numerous teams for next season, including the Stallions. We were surprised by these rumors, since the Stallions have already begun collecting deposits for next year’s season tickets. The Stallions have built a strong, passionate fan base and have seen tremendous success on and off the field. Birmingham was FOX’s number 1 UFL viewership market in the country. There’s no question the team has become a source of pride for our city. We’re sharing new strategies with the league to strengthen local attendance, boost sponsorships and maximize the team’s long-term success here. There is opportunity for growth, and we’re committed to working together to make that happen. Giddy Up!

Mayor Randall Woodfin

The UFL also released a statement stating “The league office is in the planning stages for next season and beyond — at this point we have nothing to report on any unauthorized speculation.”

Strengthening local attendance is one thing Coach Holtz hopes to see moving forward despite the speculations, saying fan support can go a long way.

“I look forward to the day that this league gets to the point where they can all be in their home market from a sustainability standpoint, and I think that’s all going to start with attendance, people showing their supports in certain cities and making sure financially that the league can survive,” said Coach Holtz.
