NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Titans kicked off training camp on Wednesday at Saint Thomas Sports Park.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding the team and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward.
Ward is expected to get a majority of the reps after last year’s starter, Will Levis, elected to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.
Though the expectation was for Ward to be the starter, this eliminates any doubt moving forward.
“I’m real excited, especially transitioning from one level to the next level,” Ward said. “I’m just excited to get around a new atmosphere, new teammates, a new coaching staff, and then finally be able to put the pads on again next week and then just doing things full speed like we were in minicamp.”
It’s the second training camp for Brian Callahan as head coach of the Titans.
Callahan made several changes to the offseason program, which holds players more accountable for making mistakes or self-inflicted negatives.
Callahan is looking to build on the progress made over the offseason.
“I love training camp. I love what it brings. I love what it means,” Callahan said. “We have a chance to really take a step forward from what I felt was a really productive offseason. Now we have a chance to put some pads on and play football and see how much better our team can get.”
The Titans’ first preseason game is scheduled for Aug. 9 on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
