Byron Allen may have the last laugh when it comes to late-night television on CBS.
As the network exits the world of late-night with the cancelation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which is ending in May, Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen, which replaced CBS’ other canceled late-night show After Midnight, is preparing new episodes.
Allen announced that he is set to start production on Season 20 of the show, which will debut in September after The Late Show. It will air two, back-to-back half-hour episodes on Monday through Friday starting on September 22.
It has been in first-run syndication since its premiere in September 2006 for 18 consecutive seasons and can also be seen on CBS-owned stations in 14 markets. The show is produced by Allen Media Group. Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jodi Miller and Jennifer Lucas are executive producers.
Allen didn’t reveal which comedians will appear on this season but previous guests include Sebastian Maniscalco, Tiffany Haddish, Nate Bargatze, Gabriel Iglesias, Theo Von, Cedric the Entertainer, Howie Mandel and Leslie Jones.
“Comics Unleashed is a true passion for me, simply because this world can never have enough laughter,” said Byron Allen. “I created this show more than 20 years ago so that the best comedians can always have a home and do what they live to do – come together and make everyone laugh.”
