Pedro Pascal is returning to the superhero world in Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but he had previously starred in DC’s Wonder Woman 1984.

In a new interview, Pascal recalled his look for the Wonder Woman sequel, noting that he was “appalled” by his appearance.

“I grow such shit facial hair, but if I were to shave it all off… I really look very…,” Pascal said while playing Agree to Disagree for LADbible. “Strongly disagree with a clean-shaven me.”

His Fantastic Four co-star Vanessa Kirby disagreed with Pascal and asked him when he was last clean-shaven, which made him recall his Wonder Woman 1984 role.

“I was so appalled by the way I looked,” he said. “I loved the movie, but I was so appalled by the way that I looked that I never have gone back unless it were completely necessary. If they asked me to be clean shave for Fantastic Four and if they had insisted I would’ve done it. But it was a very collaborative creation for all of our looks in the movie.”

Pascal recently addressed the backlash his casting in The Fantastic Four: First Steps initially received.

“I’m more aware of disgruntlement around my casting than anything I’ve ever done,” Pascal told Vanity Fair about playing Reed Richards.

Some of the criticism the actor heard following his casting was, “He’s too old. He’s not right. He needs to shave.”

Earlier this year, Pascal teased his superhero character’s elastic abilities, telling ComicBook, “With Reed, his body may stretch, but this is a brain character. I guess I’ll just give it completely away. I thought of the brilliance of an octopus. Not in any literal physical translated way, but I put it into my subconscious. Yeah. That’s the biggest character secret reveal that I’ve given to you.”

Pascal and the rest of the Fantastic Four team will reprise their roles in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which is filming now in London.
