Chris Paul returning to Los Angeles Clippers: reports

CP3 is coming back to Los Angeles.

The 12-time NBA All-Star agreed to a deal with the Clippers on Monday, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The terms of Paul’s contract weren’t immediately clear.

According to multiple sources, Paul, 40, had multiple teams interested in him, but he eventually chose to reunite with the Clippers for what may likely be his 21st and final season.

After being drafted by the New Orleans Hornets (who have since relocated to Charlotte; New Orleans’ NBA team is now the Pelicans) in 2005 and spending six seasons there, Paul was traded to the Clippers in 2011 after the NBA controversially vetoed a trade that would have sent him to the crosstown rival Lakers.

CP3 ended up spending six years playing for the Clips, playing a crucial role in the team’s “Lob City” era with Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan.

In 2017, Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets and played there for two seasons; since then, he has bounced around the league, playing one season for the Oklahoma City Thunder and three with the Phoenix Suns — with whom he reached the NBA finals in 2021, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games – followed by two one-year stints for the Golden State Warriors and, most recently, the San Antonio Spurs.

Paul now joins James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and the rest of the L.A. Clippers squad, who some consider to be contenders for this year’s NBA Finals title.

He is the third-oldest player in the NBA currently, after LeBron James and P.J. Tucker.
