The deranged Queens dad who fatally stabbed his wife and 2-year-old daughter with a kitchen knife Saturday was FaceTiming his nephew during the horror attack, the NYPD said.
The 54-year-old suspect, who has not been publicly named yet, was using the Apple video app to speak with his nephew as he stabbed his wife 18 times and little girl nine times in Ridgewood, police told ABC 7.
The panicked nephew called 911 as the murders played on his screen, with officials arriving to find that the father had stabbed himself in the chest afterward, critically wounding himself.
Relatives of the tragic slain 41-year-old wife arrived at the house later to find the gut-wrenching scene, with one family member claiming the suspect had been mentally abusive to his spouse and told her several times that he would kill her one day, a neighbor told The Post.
“He told her many times, ‘One day, I’m going to kill you.’ That means he was planning it,” the neighbor said after speaking with the heartbroken family.
The woman’s two sons, who lived separately with their father, had been desperately trying to get a hold of their mother on the day of the murders, the neighbor added.
“Oh, my God! You don’t want me to describe how they reacted. You’re calling your mom all day, you come here and hear someone killed her. … It was like a shock and panic attack,” the neighbor said of the sons’ reactions. “Everyone was crying, bawling.”
The tragedy left many residents shocked as they described the family as a seemingly idyllic couple who could be spotted pushing along their tot in her stroller together as they went shopping or did the laundry.
The neighbors said they never saw or heard the couple arguing, and they didn’t even hear the crime as it happened, with many only alerted to the tragedy once police arrived to carry out the bleeding suspect and the victims’ bodies.
“I saw them taking out the husband on a stretcher. He wasn’t moving,” a 29-year-old neighbor said.
“I saw [emergency responders] with the mobile machine, and they were trying to resuscitate them,” she added of the victims. “It was pretty horrifying.”
Another neighbor said, “They were a normal family, that’s why it’s so shocking.
“No one heard anything.”
The mother and daughter were taken to separate nearby hospitals, where they were both pronounced dead, police said.
The father was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he is in critical condition.
