Summary

  • Warner Bros. reveals the official trailer for Mortal Kombat 2
  • Earthrealm champions face Shao Kahn in a brutal tournament featuring a cast that includes Karl Urban, Hiroyuki Sanada and more
  • The film releases in October

From Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise, presented in all its brutal glory: Mortal Kombat 2. This highly anticipated sequel thrusts audiences directly into the heart of the legendary Mortal Kombat tournament, where the very existence of Earthrealm hangs in the balance. The fan-favorite champions, now bolstered by the iconic Johnny Cage himself, are pitted against one another in a no-holds-barred, gory battle, striving to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens Earthrealm and its valiant defenders.

The film boasts a compelling ensemble, featuring both returning fan-favorites and exciting new additions to the roster. Karl Urban notably stars as Johnny Cage, bringing the charismatic, washed-up Hollywood star to life. He is joined by Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Lewis Tan as Cole Young. The sinister forces of Outworld are represented by Damon Herriman as Quan Chi, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han (the original Sub-Zero), and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm this explosive follow-up to his 2021 cinematic adventure, working from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. The film is based on the beloved video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Production is helmed by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid, with executive production by Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff. The creative team also includes director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.

Mortal Kombat 2 promises to deliver the authentic, R-rated intensity and spectacular martial arts action that fans demand, pushing the boundaries of the cinematic universe with its focus on the tournament’s ultimate consequences. Mortal Kombat 2 is scheduled for theatrical release in North America on October 24, 2025, with international previews commencing on October 22.
