The Treasury Department sanctioned the leader of Tren de Aragua and five other high-ranking members of the vicious Venezuelan prison gang on Thursday.

The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control announced that all property and interests in property held by the head of the gang, Hector Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, or “Nińo Guerrero,” inside of or controlled by people in the US would be frozen.

Entities with a majority stake held by Guerrero Flores, his wife, Wendy Marbelys Rios Gomez, and three other Tren de Aragua senior members will also be blocked from conducting transactions in the US or with American citizens.

“Today’s action highlights the critical role of leaders like Niño Guerrero and his lieutenants in Tren de Aragua’s efforts to increase its destabilizing influence throughout the region,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

“The Trump Administration will not allow Tren de Aragua to continue to terrorize our communities and harm innocent Americans. In line with President Trump’s mandate to Make America Safe Again, Treasury remains dedicated to dismantling Tren de Aragua and disrupting the group’s campaign of violence.”

The State Department in February designated the gang as a foreign terrorist organization and specially designated global terrorist organization, and the Treasury months later also sanctioned Tren de Aragua as a transnational criminal entity.

As of last July, the State Department had also put a $5 million reward offer out for information leading to Guerrero Flores’ arrest.
