Just days after Avelo Airlines announced it would be closing its base at the Hollywood Burbank Airport and ceasing operations on the West Coast, another budget airline announced it will take over many of Avelo’s abandoned routes.
On Thursday, Breeze Airways announced its own West Coast expansion that will bring the ultra-low-cost carrier to Burbank and provide service to some of the cities previously served by Avelo.
Beginning March 2026, Breeze will add new service to five cities on the West Coast, including Burbank and Arcata in California, Redmond and Eugene in Oregon, and Paso/Tri-Cities in Washington. Most flights can be booked immediately.
This significant West Coast expansion increases Breeze’s network to more than 300 routes in 76 cities and 34 states. The airline began flying just four years ago in 2021, and recently recorded its second full quarter of operation profit.
Founded by David Neeleman, who previously co-founded JetBlue, Breeze says its business model centers around providing flights to underserved destinations and offering “affordable fares with plenty of perks.” Those benefits include a la carte pricing, fewer fees and enhanced seating options without additional charges for changes or cancellations up to 15 minutes before departure.
“With an expanded West Coast presence that connects travelers to our broader nationwide network, Breeze’s service will bring even more options and convenience to these underserved communities,” Neeleman said. “Our continued growth is evidence that our unique form of air travel that combines affordability and ease with high-value options … is not only working, but highly desired by today’s travelers.”
The Utah-based airline already operates multiple flights from LAX, John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, San Bernardino International Airport and San Diego International Airport, as well as offering service out of San Francisco International Airport.
Select flights out of Burbank include introductory prices as low as $39 one-way.

- Pasco-Tri-Cities, Wash. (Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting March 18, 2026,from $49* one-way);
- Provo-Salt Lake City, Utah (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, andSundays, starting March 11, 2026, from $39* one-way); and
- Redmond-Bend, Ore. (Mondays and Fridays, starting March 13, 2026, from$49 one-way).
The news comes just days after Avelo Airlines announced it was ceasing all operations on the West Coast to focus on its operations on the Eastern Seaboard. Avelo had established Hollywood Burbank Airport as its West Coast base, but will completely depart the airport by year’s end.
The company faced significant online backlash and calls for boycotts due to the airline partnering with the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement to provide charter flights for deportation purposes. The airline said that backlash had no impact on the decision to shutter operations on the West Coast.
Avelo leaving provided a sizeable hole in small- and medium-sized airports in California and the Pacific Northwest.
Lukas Johnson, Breeze Airways’ chief commercial officer, said the company has “long been monitoring” opportunities to expand along the West Coast, and said these new routes continue Breeze Airways’ efforts to provide affordable service to underserved communities.
“[We] hope the news will be a welcome reprieve for travelers in these communities,” he said.
