Officials announced Wednesday that charges have been filed against two former Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies in connection with an off-duty bar fight that allegedly ended with one deputy assaulting his wife and both attacking a bouncer.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, the altercation happened shortly after midnight on March 30 outside El Rey Cantina on Ventura Boulevard in Camarillo. The former deputies have been identified as Dylan Davis, 33, of Ventura, and Anthony Malagon, 27, of Camarillo.

Jaiden Perkins — who spoke with KTLA in May — was working as a bouncer at the cantina when he noticed a woman crying hysterically at a back table with three men and another woman.

Surveillance video showed Davis allegedly pushing his wife multiple times inside the restaurant before walking away. The woman, still crying, returned to the table, where her friends appeared to comfort her.

Perkins told KTLA he asked if the woman was OK, but she didn’t respond and her friends assured him everything was fine. Not long after, the woman and her friends walked out of the bar — and that’s when Perkins said he heard shouting and commotion just outside the front door.

When he stepped outside, Perkins allegedly saw Davis assaulting his wife near a sidewalk bench.

“He shoved her down,” Perkins recalled. “She got back up and he just started choking her. I said, ‘Hey man, you cannot be touching a lady like that,’ and he says, ‘I’ll f***ing kill you!’ and he swings left to the right side of my face.”

Perkins said he swung back, and that’s when the second deputy, Malagon, tackled him to the ground. Both men then allegedly kicked and stomped on his head.

“Davis and Malagon are accused of jointly assaulting a security guard who intervened after he witnessed Davis allegedly assault his wife,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a release. “Davis is also accused of battering a female off-duty deputy who tried to restrain him during the altercation.”

Perkins was hospitalized after the incident and told KTLA he suffered a concussion and injuries to his head, jaw, arms, back and neck.

Davis and Malagon are both charged with felony assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury. Davis also faces a separate felony charge of spousal battery and a misdemeanor battery charge.

“The felony domestic violence and assault charges are particularly serious and reflect the outcome of a comprehensive investigation by the sheriff department’s major crimes division,” District Attorney Erik Nasarenko said in a statement. “No one is above the law, and our office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to bring justice to all crime victims.”

Will Conybeare and Vivian Chow contributed to this report.
