FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — Florence Fire & Rescue responded to two separate house fire hours apart on Monday.
On Monday at 10 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of smoke and flames coming from a home on Shade Avenue.
Crews were advised that smoke and flames were visible, and there was a possibility that people were still inside the home at the time of the fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters noticed a fire at the back of the home that had extended up the back wall and towards the roof.
According to FFR, firefighters quickly went into the home and removed everyone who was inside. Officials told News 19 that the people inside the home were unaware of the fire.
Florence Fire & Rescue said that the fire was promptly extinguished and damage was limited to a minimal area.
FFR believes the fire started on the back porch of the home due to the possibility of a candle. However, the fire remains under investigation at this time.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Around 3:45 p.m. Monday, crews were dispatched to a second house fire along Marion Avenue.
Responding crews were informed that the home had multiple pets inside, and it was unclear if any individuals were inside the home.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke could be seen and the fire quickly began to burn through the roof. As a result, the fire caused extensive damage to the home.
FFR said that no residents were home at the time of the fire; however, two dogs were found inside and did not survive.
Crews believe that the fire possibly started in the kitchen; however, the cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
“We commend our crews for their dedicated efforts under difficult circumstances and extend our deepest sympathies to the residents affected by these incidents. We also remind the public to exercise caution with heat sources and open flames to help prevent future tragedies.”
