The next entry in Netflix’s Rebel Moon series is an action game with Diablo vibes, as detailed in a new trailer for Blood Line: A Rebel Moon Game.
First announced in September 2024, Blood Line is multiplayer mobile action game developed by Super Evil Megacorp (SEMC) in conjunction with Netflix Games and Rebel Moon director Zack Snyder’s production company, The Stone Quarry. Little has been heard about Blood Line since its first trailer dropped. But now, Netflix and SEMC are opening up about the game, which is scheduled for launch on mobile devices sometime this year (albeit exclusively for Netflix subscribers).
“We’ve sort of carved out our own little pocket of the expansive Rebel Moon universe where we’re building a rebellion story, where players form parties and drive and inspire a rebellion to save the universe,” executive producer Sam Heart said of the game during a preview event.
SEMC describes Blood Line as “a mobile co-op top-down action game set in the universe of Rebel Moon.” Players can customize their character and gear to suit their preferred playstyle as they team up with friends to take down Imperium baddies. The game boasts a full narrative campaign with loads of co-op missions and an “evolving story” according to SEMC devs. But the developers didn’t create Blood Line‘s premise entirely alone — Zack Snyder himself collaborated heavily with the studio throughout development.
“We’ve been giving the game [our all] in beta [tests], and I’ve been playing it non-stop ever since I got it, and I think it’s awesome,” Snyder said during an appearance at the game’s digital preview event. “I think you guys are going to love what the developers over at Super Evil Megacorp have come up with, because it’s so cool. I really love this project because it allowed me to expand the Rebel Moon universe in a way I didn’t believe [was] possible, and [I] have been really astonished to see this [universe] in game form. It’s so cool.”
In Blood Line, players step into the boots of an Imperium turncoat who has abandoned their post to join the rebellion on Krypt. They must choose from one of the game’s four classes — Bannerguard (tank), Evoker (support), Kindred (sniper), and Forsaken (agile assassin) — before embarking on co-op missions to improve their gear and kick the Imperium where it really hurts. Players can even take on the role of one of the Imperium’s “Jimmy” robots, which have been known to rebel against the Imperium from time to time. (It’s unclear if the game’s Jimmy bots can wear flower crowns, however.)
Snyder says the idea for the game’s premise came from SEMC devs:
The guys over at Super Evil Megacorp, when they approached me, they were like, ‘What about the Krypteian Warriors? Maybe we [could] use them as the main characters,’ and I was like, ‘Well, how do we do that? Like, they’re the bad guys.’ And [SEMC devs] said, ‘What about this?’ And then through a series of creative back-and-forths, we came up with this really cool idea where we really explore the Krypteian culture, we find out what makes them such capable warriors.
What if a rift formed between these two cultures that have been aligned for a thousand years — that is the Imperium and the Krypteians — and what if that rift exploded into a planet-wide rebellion? And what if that rebellion really threatened the larger Imperium? And I thought that stuff was really cool, because it really lined up with our Rebel Moon [film] storyline.
“Zack’s been an amazing collaborator for us and [he] really helped build out this section of the Rebel Moon universe,” Heart said of working with Snyder.
As for the film franchise, Snyder says a third Rebel Moon film is in the works, but Netflix has yet to confirm this. Kurt Johnstad — who wrote both Rebel Moon films — says that he and Snyder have outlined films three through six, but that there are still two vital ingredients required for a third film to be greenlit: “some luck and an act of god.”
