Ecuador earned a 2-2 draw against Uruguay after staging a late comeback. Trailing 2-0, Ecuador got on the board with an own goal by Uruguay, then Emily Arias scored the equalizer in the 78th minute to complete the comeback and secure a valuable point in group play.
Ecuador’s best finish in this competition was third place in 2014. The team has fallen out in the group stage in the last two tournaments, winning one of its eight games.
