FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) — 29 dogs were taken from a home on County Road 6 in Lauderdale County on July 1st, it’s the same place where 82 dogs were confiscated back in January.

“We’re seeing the same things we did with the first groups, a lot of horrible teeth or orthopedics, issues ear infections, matting. We ranked everybody in order and we’ve given all that to the DA‘s office,” Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services Director Cheryl Jones.

Jones told News 19’s Whitney Leibold that one of the 29 dogs just gave birth to four puppies, making the count 33 dogs in total. Jones says they are not allowing adoptions just yet.

“We’re not doing any of that until, since there is going to be a hearing, an expedited hearing, we’re not doing any of that until we have the hearing and we’re awarded custody of the animals,” Jones said.

With the recent overpopulated dog and cat intake, Jones said a local practice donated several pieces of equipment to have at the shelter for all animals.

Jones tells News 19, they are now looking for a veterinarian, and once a vet is hired on, it’ll be an in-house spay and neuter clinic.

“They’ll do, health certificates, rabies vaccines, and then some spay and neuter surgeries,” Jones said.

Jones tells me, the Florence-Lauderdale Animal Services brings in more than 5,000 animals each year and that it’s important to have onsite care, as animals come in.

“It’s just it’s just that important to get that fixed before it leaves our custody to avoid unwanted letters,” Jones said.

Jones says they will be bringing the equipment over to the animal shelter to get the clinic set up, and says they are actively looking for a vet.
