Animal lovers’ hearts have melted at a golden retriever who can’t wait to visit his grandma while his mom is at work.

Maggie Comerford, 28, lives in Decatur, Illinois, and is the proud owner of golden retriever dog, Sully, whom she has had for almost three years—after her parents convinced her to get a pup.

Comerford told Newsweek: “They were debating getting another dog, and I had always wanted one but was worried with me being so busy. She encouraged me to get Sully, offering to babysit him whenever!”

The mother and daughter now have an ideal setup, with Sully and her parents’ golden, Fletcher, spending playdates together throughout the week, at either Comerford’s or her mom’s house.

“My dog gets dropped off during the day three times a week, and their dog comes to me on the days I work from home,” Comerford said. “It’s the best of both worlds.”

And it is clear Sully loves his trips to grandma’s house, as proven by a viral video to Comerford’s TikTok account, @maggie_comerford97, on July 9.

In the clip, Comerford is on her way to work with Sully in the car, and she stops outside a home where her mother can be seen waiting at the front door with Fletcher.

Sully looks around and spots her—and, as Comerford opens the car door wishing him to “have a good day,” Sully is off like a shot, sprinting across the road and up the front yard.

He rushes through the open door without looking back, and Comerford’s mom gives her a wave before closing the door.

“Yeah, my baby goes to his grandma’s while I’m at work too,” Comerford wrote over the video.

She told Newsweek: “Sully is obsessed with both his grandma and me, his mama. He has been able to run straight to one of us without running away for over a year now.”

Speaking of Sully’s clear love of being around people, Comerford added: “Anytime someone gets home or he goes to greet someone, he immediately grabs a toy and cries because he is overwhelmed with excitement. At grandma and grandpa’s, he is showered with cuddles, trips to the dog park and far too many treats. Both goldens can often be found cuddling together!”

TikTok users loved the adorable clip, which has close to 4 million views and more than 630,000 likes, with one commenter joking: “He forgot his backpack with his lunch and toys and hat!”

Another laughed at the fact Sully doesn’t “even look back to say bye,” as one praised Comerford: “This, ladies and gentlemen, is how to care for your pet. Best dog mom.”

And one dog-grandma shared: “My kids’ fur babies come to my house when they go on vacation, and sometimes I just go and make excuses to bring them over for the day.”

While Comerford and her mother look after each other’s dogs, many owners opt for pet sitters when they are away from their pups, particularly for longer stretches of time such as vacation.

Pet-sitters often stay at the owner’s house, allowing the dog to stick to its routine and usual surroundings. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) advises leaving a checklist for the pet-sitter, which includes your contact information, trip itinerary and emergency contacts.

Information about your pet, including their age, weight, daily routine and any medications, as well as contact information for your vet, should also be left available for the pet sitter.

Comerford said: “At the end of the day, I am still his favorite person to see, and each time, he acts as if he hasn’t seen me in months.

“He is truly my soul dog, and I love him so much!” she added.
