Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is set to enter the second season of his NFL career. In year one, he showed major potential but the team continued to struggle.

After another disappointing season, the Bears decided to make a major change. They moved on from former head coach Matt Eberflus and brought in Ben Johnson to replace him. Of course, Johnson was the mastermind behind the Detroit Lions’ powerful offense.

Johnson is expected to work wonders for Williams, which is a sentiment that NFL legend Peyton Manning shares.

Williams has superstar potential. Very few would argue against that statement.

Should he live up to his full potential, Chicago should be a very good team for many years to come. However, the young quarterback needs to be developed and he needs stability.

Manning spoke out about Williams and shared his belief that Johnson will be exactly what the doctor ordered for the young quarterback.

“What I’m excited about, Caleb is that Ben Johnson is his new head coach, he’s also the offensive coordinator and when your head coach is calling the plays, that means it’s gonna be the same system every single year and it’s just a great chance to have continuity and growth,” Manning said.

Having an offensive mind as creative as Johnson will be a huge upgrade for Williams and the Bears. He will bring a completely different philosophy than the last coaching staff had. A modern approach is important for a modern quarterback.

During the 2024 NFL season as a rookie, Williams played in all 17 regular season games. He completed 62.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while also rushing for 489 yards.

Speaking more on the topic, Manning revealed more of his thoughts about Johnson becoming the new he’d coach in Chicago.

“When you have the same system, it’s the same language every single year. Learning a new system every year is tough,” Manning said. “And Ben Johnson, the other thing, he had a choice to go any place he wanted. He chose to go to the Bears, which arguably could be the toughest division in football. It tells you what he thinks about Caleb and about that team.”

It will be very interesting to see how the Bears’ offense looks under new leadership. Williams will also have a full offseason under his belt after getting a taste of the NFL.

Chicago once again has high expectations heading into the 2025 season. Hopefully, the Bears are finally able to take the next step and get back to being a playoff contender with Williams and Johnson leading the way.
