Hsieh Su-wei and Jeļena Ostapenko defeated Sorana Cirstea and Anna Kalinskaya in the quarter finals in three sets, then took down No. 1 seed Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend in two sets in the semifinals.
Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens beat the No. 2 seed of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the quarter finals in two sets, then beat unseeded Olivia Gadecki and Desirae Krawczyk in three sets in the final.
This matchup features a pair of former teammates against each other. In 2021, Su-wei and Mertens teamed up to take the Wimbledon doubles title. That was one of four Wimbledon doubles titles for Su-wei, who has won three of the Grand Slams and is only missing the US Open.
As for Mertens, that Wimbledon victory was her only one, but she’s come close other times, losing in the final in 2022 and 2023. Is this the year she gets the second win and takes down her former duo partner in the process?
