Back in May, former Washington Commanders running back Adrian Peterson went viral for his involvement in a physical altercation at a poker game in Houston, Texas.

As the one-on-one fight was caught on camera, it would soon go viral once internet users realized that it was Peterson in one corner.

While the altercation concluded, it seems that was just the first round. According to TMZ Sports, Peterson landed an offer to get involved in a Celebrity Boxing Match against the same opponent. Peterson is officially signed on, and reportedly “taking it seriously.”

His opponent, who was identified as Joe Castaneda, agreed to take on the bout. While the report made it clear that Peterson and Castaneda were taking the fight seriously, it’s purely a competition. There is no bad blood between them after they sorted out their issues at the infamous poker game.

Peterson, 40, hung up his cleats just a few years after playing for Washington. Once we wrapped up with Washington, Peterson had a 16-game run with the Detroit Lions in 2020. He rushed for over 600 yards on 156 carries. In 2021, Peterson appeared in three games with the Tennessee Titans, taking on just 27 carries. He played his final game with the Seattle Seahawks in 2021.

Before Peterson made it to Washington in 2018, he seemed to be on a steep decline. Following his 1,485-yard season with the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, Peterson played in just three games, rushing for 72 yards. A knee injury ended his season prematurely.

In 2017, Peterson started the year with the New Orleans Saints, where he played in four games. He was traded to the Arizona Cardinals, who rolled him out for six games to take on 129 carries. Peterson rushed for 448 yards and two touchdowns with the Cardinals.

Washington signed Peterson on a one-year deal in 2018. In 16 games, Peterson bounced back and totaled 1,042 rushing yards, with seven touchdowns. In the following year, he re-signed and appeared in 15 games. Peterson would produce 898 yards and score five touchdowns.

Although Peterson’s time with the Commanders’ organization was short, it was impactful at the time. He left the game of football with nearly 15,000 rushing yards and exactly 120 touchdowns.

Peterson now places his focus on a boxing bout. It’s unclear if Peterson will continue looking for fights after his playing career, but the Texas native is looking forward to competing once again.
