PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department said the 23-year-old has felony arrest warrants for nationwide extradition on prior charges involving drugs.
PPD said on Saturday around 2:15 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Garth Road near Highway 67. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Tyrese Nashad Hamilton from Decatur.
The department said that when officers first made contact with Hamilton, they observed signs of impairment. However, PPD said Hamilton declined to undergo a field sobriety test. The police department said additional observations during the investigation provided reason for a probable cause search of the vehicle.
The search led to the discovery of a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle. While Hamilton was detained during the search, PPD said he tried to get rid of an additional amount of marijuana from his waistband onto the roadside.
Hamilton was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with physical evidence.
A records check showed that Hamilton had felony arrest warrants for nationwide extradition due to probation violations related to prior charges involving trafficking in marijuana and possession of marijuana, through the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Hamilton was taken to the Morgan County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
