The American Century Championship is one of the most entertaining golf events of the year, and day one did not disappoint, as Charles Barkley and Steph Curry put on a show.

Charles Barkley played the opening round of his life on day one of the American Century Championship. He scored six more points on Friday than in any round he has ever played at Edgewood Tahoe South in over 30 appearances. His score of 9 is tied for 24th. Barkley entered with the longest odds to win the tournament of the entire 90-man field of play.
Former NHL player and 2024 runner-up Joe Pavelski has the lead heading into Saturday with a score of 23, followed by Vinny Del Negro at 22.
Steph Curry is third after a solid performance on day one, and the case can be made that he is the best active professional athlete golfer in the world. He did not participate in last year’s event due to playing in the 2024 Summer Olympics, but the last time he entered this field in 2023, he took home the trophy with a score of 75.
All eyes will be on Barkley in rounds two and three as the Hall of Fame basketball player looks to keep up his consistent play. He clearly is locked in and can put all the doubters to rest this weekend with even a top 50 finish.
