HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Madison Posey, a grieving mother, is now speaking out after her four-month-old daughter died almost one month ago.
In an emotional interview, Posey and her family told News 19 they believe this tragedy could have been prevented.
Posey gave birth in February to twin girls, but the Madison County Department of Human Resources placed the twins with their father, Victavious Dennis, after she tested positive for CBD at the hospital.
Posey said her doctor recommended the CBD to help her gain weight during pregnancy, and both twins tested negative for any drugs or CBD at birth.
On June 8, Posey visited her twins at their father’s home and found one of them, Kyla, in a medical emergency. She then called 911.
At the hospital, Kyla was diagnosed with brain trauma, a brain bleed, a broken collarbone, broken ribs and a liver injury.
The following Wednesday, Kyla died.
Dennis told police he dropped Kyla while bathing her the night before. He is now charged with murder in addition to aggravated child abuse related to Kyla’s death.
Now, Posey said she wants answers and wants to see accountability.
Posey said after Kyla’s death, Madison County DHR took her other two children and placed them in foster care, and she is now taking classes, being drug tested regularly and fulfilling all requirements from DHR to gain back custody of her children.
According to Posey, the doctors said the hour before baby Kyla was brought into the hospital, and was not receiving oxygen to her brain, contributed to her injuries.
She said when emergency services arrived the night of the initial incident, one of the personnel told her she could only ride in the ambulance to the hospital if she calmed down.
This case is now raising questions for her about how child protection and emergency response systems operate.
Regarding DHR, Posey said Dennis should never have had custody of the twin babies after his legal troubles.
She also said that when their oldest son was an infant, he also had unexplained injuries while he was in his father’s care.
Despite the heartache that Posey is experiencing, and while she continues to heal, Posey said she won’t stop pushing for answers, not just for her daughter, but to make sure no other parent has to feel this pain.
