A motorist hit a Los Angeles Police Department squad car that was at the scene of a prior crash that sent at least two people to the hospital overnight, authorities say.

Preliminary information later confirmed by LAPD indicates that the initial collision occurred around 2:15 a.m. Saturday on Santa Monica Boulevard near Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood.

First responders arrived at the scene and found that three vehicles were involved in a head-on traffic collision. Two people were transported to a nearby hospital, including one who was listed in critical condition.

No information on either of their identities was released.

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows the scene of the crash, which severely damaged two sedans. Per the footage, a Mustang was also involved in the collision, as it sat partially on the sidewalk with front end damage.

While officers were investigating the collision, a man driving a Chevy Camaro appeared to drive underneath the caution tape blocking the crash site and hit the back of one of the LAPD squad cars at the scene.

The man was seen on video being detained by police, although an LAPD spokesperson could not confirm why he was detained or if he was arrested.

No further information on either incident was immediately available.
