A grandmother has gone viral for what her daughter found her doing when she thought she was in some sort of trouble.

Mandy, from Boonville, Indiana, is best friends with her mom, Betty, telling Newsweek they have “always been really close.”

“Even when I was little, we were constantly laughing, singing in the car, waving at strangers for no reason, and just being silly,” said Mandy, who did not give her last name.

“We know it’s cliché, but we have literally always been each other’s best friend.”

Now aged 46 and 79, the pair are still incredibly close, and Betty lives in an apartment attached to Mandy’s home, both so the daughter can help her mom out with her medication and doctor’s appointments, and just to spend time together. And, as Mandy said, “not much has changed.”

She added: “We still pull pranks on each other, crack up over the dumbest things, and try to keep life light. We don’t really see the point in arguing. If you love each other, you might as well laugh together as much as possible.”

Betty’s wicked sense of humor has led her to go viral multiple times, with Mandy sharing her mom’s adventures to her TikTok account, @bettymcfly77. A recent video has been viewed millions of times, after Mandy rushed to her mom’s aid after hearing what she thought was yelling coming from her apartment.

“It was so loud, I genuinely thought she might have fallen or something had gone wrong,” Mandy said.

“I couldn’t tell it was laughter at first, because I was several rooms away and it was all muffled. But when I got to her door, I realized she was laughing hysterically,” Mandy added.

“The moment I recognized what was going on, I just hit record. I knew it was gold.”

In the video, posted on July 5 and viewed over 4 million times, Betty sits in an armchair, laughing nonstop, doubling up and putting a hand to her mouth as she belly-laughs.

The camera then pans to the TV, where it is revealed Betty is watching a video montage of people falling over—falling off bikes and being blown over on a windy day—and her laughter only grows as she keeps watching.

Mandy wrote in the caption: “I ran into her apartment because I thought she was yelling. Scared me to death. This is what I found.”

And TikTok users were in stitches, with one commenter saying: “I’ve just seen myself in 50 years.”

“She’s pure belly laughing,” another posted, as one declared it was “actually better than seeing a baby belly laugh.”

And another thanked Mandy: “oh my God I can’t stop laughing and I can’t stop watching. Thank you for making my Saturday.”

Mandy said that this is pretty typical for her mother: “I’ve caught her doing the exact same thing more than a few times.

“It’s usually those fail videos or old episodes of America’s Funniest Home Videos that get her going. What made this time different was just how loud and intense the laughter was. It was full-on belly laughs.”

Laughter has multiple health benefits: it offers stress relief; increases oxygen to the body; strengthens social bonds; and increases blood flow around the body, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Mandy said Betty has “always had a great sense of humor, and so did my dad,” describing her family as one that “laughs a lot. Joy and humor are just part of who we are.”

“Like anyone else, we’ve had our share of tough times, but we’ve found that, sometimes if you don’t laugh, you cry. So we choose to laugh,” Mandy said.

“It has always been that way with my mom, my dad, and the rest of the family, and I’ve done my best to pass that same outlook on to my own kids.”
