A tractor-trailer cab plunged off the Delaware Memorial Bridge early Friday, triggering a massive underwater search for the missing driver.

The cab, which did not have a trailer attached, veered across three lanes of the I-295 traffic around 3:40 a.m. then smashed through a concrete barrier, plummeting into the water, the Delaware River and Bay Authority told WPVI.

Photos showed a huge gap in the barrier where the heavy vehicle smashed through.

The Coast Guard, dive teams and local fire companies were still searching the water looking for the driver.

It was not clear if anyone else was inside the truck at the time, the outlet reported.

Officials are still investigating exactly how it happened, but no other vehicles are thought to be involved, the outlet said.
