A Long Beach man has been charged with a series of violent crimes across Southern California, including the rape of a woman, an attempted rape and an alleged hate-motivated attack on a man, prosecutors announced.
Alvin Marbra, 29, faces three felony counts stemming from incidents between April and July in Long Beach and Santa Monica. Charges include forcible rape, assault with intent to commit rape, and battery with a hate crime allegation, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said Marbra attacked a 52-year-old woman on April 4 on the Strand in Santa Monica. He is accused of attempting to rape her and causing serious injuries during the assault.
On June 30, Marbra allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old man near Orange Avenue and Fourth Street in Long Beach. Prosecutors said the attack was motivated by bias, though the nature of that bias was not disclosed.
The most recent incident occurred July 1, when Marbra allegedly kidnapped and raped a 61-year-old woman near Alamitos Avenue and Fifth Street in Long Beach. Prosecutors allege he inflicted great bodily injury during the assault.
Marbra has a prior conviction in Florida for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2021.
He was arraigned July 3 in Long Beach and remains in custody on $1.275 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 17.
If convicted on all charges, Marbra faces a sentence of 25 years plus 55 years to life in state prison. He would be required to register as a sex offender for life and would be banned from owning firearms.
