Summary

  • Netflix announced a Korean live-action Solo Leveling adaptation
  • Despite fervent fan speculations suggesting Cha Eun-woo for the lead role, Byeon Woo-seok is officially cast as Sung Jin-woo instead
  • Co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo; production is underway

Following months of speculation and fervent fan discussions, Netflix has officially announced a Korean live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling. Originally serialized on KakaoPage, the franchise has become a global sensation, amassing over 14.3 billion cumulative views across its web novel and webtoon formats. Its anime adaptation further solidified its popularity, sweeping nine major categories at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards – including Anime of the Year, Best Action and Best Character – setting high expectations for the upcoming live-action series.

While fans initially speculated that Cha Eun-woo might take on the lead role, the coveted part of Sung Jin-woo will be played by Byeon Woo-seok. One of Korea’s most in-demand actors, Byeon is celebrated for his performances in 20th Century Girl and Lovely Runner. His striking visuals have earned him the nickname “straight out of a manhwa,” making him a compelling choice to portray Jin-woo’s transformation from low-ranked Hunter to humanity’s last hope.

The series will be co-directed by Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo, known for their work on Ashfall, Castaway on the Moon, and Like a Virgin. Produced by Kakao Entertainment and SANAI PICTURES, the adaptation promises vivid characters, thrilling quests, and high-impact action sequences brought to life by a world-class global VFX team. No release window or further details have been shared, but it’s confirmed that the series is currently in production and will be available on Netflix.
