The New York Yankees are trying to chase down the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East as the All-Star Break rapidly approaches, and the Yankees have been trying to solve their problem at third base since losing Oswald Cabrera for the season in May.
According to Talkin’ Yanks on X, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is moving back to his natural position of second base, effective immediately. Meanwhile, the Yankees have reportedly checked in with the Colorado Rockies about Ryan McMahon, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
With the Yankees entering Wednesday 3 1/2 games behind the Blue Jays, the Blue Jays have not lost in their last 10 games.
The Yankees have been rumored to be interested in multiple third basemen going back to the offseason, including a pair of National League Central third basemen in Ke’Bryan Hayes and Nolan Arenado.
McMahon has had an off season at the plate but is still hovering around his career averages in most statistics, including being over halfway to his fifth consecutive 20 home run season.
The Rockies’ season has been an abysmal showing so far, including being on pace to break the Chicago White Sox record for most losses in a season, which was set last year. While that is going on, they are exploring the possibilities of moving some of their pieces to try and build for the future in prospect, and McMahon, a former All-Star, could be the first stone turned as the trade deadline approaches.
