EXCLUSIVE: Pretty Blind, which is based on podcaster Jennie Bovard’s experience as a partially blind woman, has landed a second season at Canada’s AMI-tv and AMI+ just a day after Season 1 launch.

Starring Bovard and produced by Jonathan Torrens and Jenna MacMillan, Pretty Blind follows protagonist Jennie Bonang as she deals with issues ranging from a romantic fall-out to an overbearing roommate, to her dysfunctional family and equally dysfunctional workplace. To cope, Jennie starts her own podcast, Low Vision Moments, and enlists the surprise help of a local superstar. The ensemble cast includes Jacob Hemphill (Roll With It) as Yves; Jessica Barry (FROM) as Veronica; Dan Barra-Berger (All Access Comedy) as Steve; and MJ ‘Joanne’ Miller (Diggstown) as Sandy, alongside a cameo appearance from Street Cents co-host Torrens, who also directs a few episodes.

The show is based on Bovard’s own Low Vision Moments podcast and has made Canadian TV history, according to its producer, by being the first ever comedy starring a blind lead actor upon whom the TV series is based. Bovard shares her experience navigating the world with low vision and albinism on Low Vision Moments.

“When I began the Low Vision Moments podcast, it was a chance to reframe blindness and albinism, for listeners and myself” said Bovard. “It quickly turned into a community that shared a common experience and found its way to bond with laughter. I hadn’t dreamed that one day we’d be filming not only one season, but a second season, based on that podcast.”

Torrential Pictures and Club Red Productions produce the series. Season 1 launched yesterday on AMI-tv and AMI+.
