PHOENIX — This month, KTAR’s Community Spotlight is shining a light on the work Hyundai Motor Company in Arizona does to help families fight pediatric cancer.

Through the company’s nationwide Hyundai Hope on Wheels initiative, a portion of every Hyundai vehicle purchased goes to grants to local hospitals to fund research across the country.

Why Hyundai is getting the KTAR community spotlight this month

Furthermore, the company has been an unwavering supporter of KTAR News’ Give-A-Thon Week, which drives support for Phoenix Children’s, for around 16 years.

Adam Breen, general manager of Hyundai in San Tan Valley, said it’s an honor to play a big role in the recovery of young cancer patients in Arizona.

“About 38 children a day are diagnosed of childhood cancer, and it’s something that we can do as a company (is) to give back to our community and not only support the hospital, but support the whole community itself,” Breen told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News on Wednesday.

This year’s Give-A-Thon will take place this year Aug. 18-22. Hospital leaders say Phoenix Children’s can’t continue its mission of providing world-class health care to families in Arizona and beyond without such fundraisers.

“It’s fantastic and it’s a great hospital for the children in our community that have to … go through something so devastating,” Breen said. “It really pulls your heart heart strings when you get to see really the doctors in action, the families that are affected.”
