BOAZ, Ala (WHNT) — Two women are now facing prostitution related charges in Marshall County after police raided the Sunshine Spa and Massage in Boaz.
The business is located off Elizabeth Street and sits inside a shopping center.
Dianne Peppers did not want to go on camera, but says she’s lived in Boaz her entire life.
When asked how she felt when she heard the news of the arrests, Peppers said, “I wasn’t shocked at all.”
Peppers frequents the restaurant that is next to the spa, and she said she only ever saw one type of “customer” heading in and out.
“Just men in and out,” she said.
Peppers said this is not the first time she’s heard of a Boaz massage parlor turning into a police bust.
“It happened a couple of times last year… local massage parlors, you know, were shut down for prostitution,” she said. “Now that that shocked us, you know, because that was the first we had heard of it in Boaz.”
Now she said she’s hesitant to get massages.
“I thought about getting a massage, but then, I mean, I’m just scared to go anywhere now because you’re afraid that that’s going to happen,” she said. “It just makes you nervous.”
Boaz police said they searched the business on July 1 as part of an ongoing investigation.
The Marshall County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to News19 that police also busted two other massage parlors for the same type of conduct in Boaz last year.
Boaz police say that they are early in the investigation, but more charges are possible.
