A Los Angeles native will join more than 250 seriously wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans at the 2025 Department of Defense Warrior Games Challenge next month in Colorado.

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class David Duggan, U.S. Navy (ret.), will represent Team Navy at the competition, which takes place July 18–26 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Athletes will compete in adaptive events including archery, indoor rowing, powerlifting and precision air sports.

Duggan, who joined the Navy in 2018, said the service felt like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity he couldn’t pass up. After retiring, he found renewed connection through adaptive sports.

“Being part of Team Navy has given me a sense of camaraderie again that I felt fading since retiring from the Navy,” Duggan said in an article by Navy Outreach. “The friendships and contacts that this program has given me are beyond what I could have ever expected.”

Now in its 15th year, the Warrior Games are hosted by U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and bring together athletes from across the military branches and U.S. Special Operations Command. While medals are awarded, the competition primarily celebrates perseverance and resilience.

Duggan, an avid outdoorsman, discovered precision air sports during his first adaptive camp earlier this year. A self-described adrenaline junkie, he also enjoys surfing, snowboarding and cliff jumping and has been adjusting these activities to remain involved.
