The first dance usually belongs to the bride and groom—but this time, Bianca Wyler’s dad stole the show.

While attempting to film his daughter’s dance, Miguel Angel Michel, 66, couldn’t control his feet and eventually fobbed off his phone altogether, earning 4.2 million views on TikTok.

The clip, shared by the bride’s sister Jessica (@jess.herrera.ca), received over 960,000 likes in just 24 hours.

Newsweek spoke to Wyler, 33, from San Diego, California. She said: “It was such a pure, happy dad moment.”

Wyler and her husband Patrick, 22, began dancing to “Better Half of Me” by Tom Walker, then switched it up by playing one of her family favorites, a Mexican song by Valentín Elizalde called “Cómo.”

It doesn’t take a genius to see that the lively, upbeat melody is Michel’s favorite song. By the end of the clip, he’s dancing like nobody’s watching—swinging his hips and spinning around. Of course, everyone was very much watching.

According to an annual YouGov poll, Americans show little interest in ditching the first dance tradition, with well over half of 1,000 respondents saying it should be kept. In February 2025, 79 percent said it should be preserved, 16 percent were unsure, and only 4 percent wanted it dropped.

Wyler told Newsweek: “I grew up dancing to it with my siblings and my dad, so I knew it would get the crowd going.

“Seeing him dancing filled me with so much joy. Our wedding was already full of beautiful, emotional moments, and watching him try to record me, then completely give in to the music, made me burst out laughing.

“Other guests at their tables started recording him too. He is such a character and already one of everyone’s favorite people. Honestly, I would have been more surprised if he did not dance.”

It isn’t just guests who enjoyed the performance but the internet too.

So far, the clip captioned “My dad is a whole vibe,” has more than 1,300 comments.

“I love that you got to get married at your dad’s dance show,” said one user.

Another wrote: “My dad’s [going to] do flips when I become another man’s responsibility.”

“I can’t! He can’t control himself! He tried so hard to,” praised a third user, and a fourth chimed in: “He tried hard not to shine in your moment but the beat just took over.”
