MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (WHNT) — The Muscle Shoals community is rallying around the Weaver family after their home caught fire on Thursday.
The shell of the home on Ashbey Circle barely remains after a devastating house fire on Thursday.
Muscle Shoals Fire Chief John Hyde told News 19 what the fire was like when he arrived.
“When I got there, it was fire coming out of every bit of the roof, it was just all fire,” Hyde said.
Hyde says the fire grew bigger, and although no people were inside the home, there were three dogs.
“An off-duty Florence fireman called it in, I guess, and got a dog out, and then Lieutenant Andrews got the other two dogs out. One of the dogs we got out after the fire was put out, it was in the upstairs bedroom where most of the fire was,” Hyde said.
All three dogs made it out alive and were rushed to the vet for treatment.
Homeowner Derek Weaver said he is beyond grateful for the firefighters.
“They brought the dog out, they did everything they could to make our life better, and it’s just very humbling,” Weaver said.
Bibles, a set of angel wings, and the three dogs were the only things to make it out of the fire.
“At one point, I said, I don’t understand this at all, but then Coach Weaver was like, well, it’s God because I’ve been praying the whole time, and I don’t disagree with that for a minute,” Chief Hyde said.
Weaver says the night was devastating, but it quickly turned around when people from the Muscle Shoals community showed up and rallied and showered them with love, support and help.
“It’s so humbling, and just the amount of people that were there, the amount of people who had been there, it hasn’t been stressful at all, it’s been very easy on my family,” Weaver said.
When the Weavers went to pick up their dogs from the vet, the bill had already been paid by a good Samaritan.
And after receiving love, support, and so much more from the community, the Weaver family said it has a message for Muscle Shoals:
“We love you, and you went above and beyond, and we thank you,” Weaver said.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, and the Weaver family has living arrangements. The family told News 19 they look at this situation as Jesus stepping in and paying a debt they were unable to pay.
