HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Huntsville Police Department said it arrested a man in a shooting investigation Sunday evening.
Around 8:30 p.m., HPD said officers responded to reports of a possible shooting in progress in the 200 block of Exchange Place.
When officers arrived, the department said they found a man with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.
HPD stated that officers received information indicating the suspect had possibly fled on foot into a nearby building. A drone was deployed to assist in the search and located a man matching the suspect’s description on the roof of a nearby building.
The department determined that the suspect was armed. Officers then established a perimeter to contain the suspect and ensure public safety. Specialized units, including SWAT, the Crisis Response and Negotiations Team, and others, were called to the scene.
The negotiations with the suspect began and were eventually successful, leading to the suspect’s surrender.
As a result, Matthew Allan Clark, 33, of Woodstock, GA, was taken into custody, interviewed by a member of our Violent Crimes Unit and arrested for first-degree assault.
