An apparent road rage incident resulted in heavy delays on the 215 Freeway in San Bernardino when one of the people involved left the scene with the other driver’s keys, officials said.
The incident was reported shortly before 7 a.m. when the drivers of a van and a car got out of their vehicles, leaving at least one lane blocked on the northbound side of the freeway near Devore Road.
Both drivers then began fighting on the freeway, allegedly because the van had been cut off by the other driver, who then “brake checked” him, the California Highway Patrol stated.
The driver of the van called the CHP, telling them that he had been kicked and had his keys stolen by the other motorist, who then drove away.
The caller had also suffered facial injuries during the altercation, the CHP stated.
Because the van could not be moved off the freeway, traffic through the area was delayed while a tow truck responded to the location.
The caller told investigators that he had been spit on and then kicked when he tripped trying to confront the other driver.
No description of the other driver or his vehicle has been made available.
Authorities are also searching for a truck that drove away after apparently striking the van as it sat on the freeway.
Video from the scene showed the van being hooked up to the tow truck around 7:30 a.m. The incident cleared the CHP traffic incident log a short time later.
