LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office says an 18-year-old was arrested after a shooting Sunday night.
LCSO said on Sunday, deputies responded to a call in the 12000 block of Dickens Lane, where a person had been shot while sitting in a vehicle. The sheriff’s office said the victim was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
After an investigation, investigators identified Sheldyn Hobbs Jr., 18, of Athens as a suspect.
The sheriff’s office said on Monday morning, investigators located Hobbs’ vehicle in the vicinity and established a perimeter. LCSO said that at around 11:20 a.m. Hobbs was observed leaving a home and getting into a vehicle. Authorities said investigators then performed a traffic stop and took Hobbs into custody.
According to LCSO, investigators searched the home and based on the results of that search, Hobbs has been charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
The sheriff’s office is asking for help as part of their investigation.
“We are asking for the community’s help. If you live in the Copperfield Subdivision, please review your home security footage for any suspicious activity between 10:00 p.m. on July 6, 2025, and 12:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025,” LCSO said. “If you have any relevant footage or information, contact Investigator Pierce at (256) 232-0111.”
The sheriff’s office believes the shooting is an isolated incident stemming from a prior altercation, but the investigation is ongoing at this time.
