When a young couple from Seattle, Washington, brought home a second dog, it wasn’t because they wanted more chaos into their house, but rather to give their quiet husky a companion to share her happiness with.
In a viral TikTok video shared in June under the username @thepupdiaries2, the poster explains: “The real reason we got a second dog… She was so used to our routine… She had so much love to give… She needed someone who spoke pup and not just human language.
“Always curled up in her little husky ball. Lower energy levels. She was so happy but something felt missing. It was so calm all the time… a little too calm. It was like she was waiting for a buddy to enjoy her loving home with.”
While at the beginning of the clip the pup looks reserved and bored, by the time her owners bring her new sibling home, she completely changes. With her new little brother she’s suddenly active, playful, and it seems she can’t stop smiling.
“We weren’t looking officially… But he found us… His first adoption fell through and it was truly just meant to be”.
The poster, Diana Antoci, told Newsweek that the husky, Mera, which they’ve had for two years, is the sweetest girl, and she’s full of “personality, spunk, and love.”
“She has such a gentle yet exciting bond with everyone she meets, and she’s always been our little shadow, following us around wherever we go! She’s a very independent girl, but loves her new younger brother and loves cuddling up with us. I appreciate you sharing her sweet face with your community!” she said.
While some dogs crave and enjoy the company of other canines, not all of them do, and you should always respect your pup’s wishes.
Oakland Veterinary says that before bringing a new dog home to your pup, you should ask yourself if your dog actually enjoys being with other dogs, how they behave around other pups, and how their mood appears after a play date.
If your dog does indeed need a friend, try to get one with a similar personality, better if the opposite gender, whose size is not more than 50 percent different.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 601,300 views and 76,700 likes on the platform.
One user, Fear.the.husky, commented: “It’s the last picture that sealed the deal. She’s happppppyy…. Awwww.”
Shondradapurpleon added: “This touched me, I have a German shepherd and I think he is feeling the same, but I can’t afford to care for another baby.”
