Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton missed out on a podium finish in the race due to the rainy conditions and several safety car interventions.

While he performed well over the race weekend, Hamilton didn’t show his full pace during the race.

The seven-time World Champion finished at the top of the first practice session, and the Ferrari car made a massive step up compared to where it had been all season long.

The Italian team brought a new floor and other upgraded parts to the car, which has unlocked performance, but Hamilton noted that with the improved pace came a trickier car to handle.

“Yeah, a difficult day, I think, for everybody, but it’s not the result that I was hoping for,” Hamilton told the media after the race.

“It’s the most difficult car I’ve been in here, so I’m just hoping to come back and have some fun.”

Hamilton spent several years at Mercedes before moving to Ferrari this season, and the seasoned driver is left unlearning old habits and getting used to the Ferrari’s characteristics as a car.

The whole first half of the season saw Hamilton struggle to adapt to the Italian race car, and Silverstone was another chapter in a familiar story.

“The tires dropped off massively. The car was unbelievably tricky to drive.

“I think ultimately I learned a lot today. It’s only my second time driving in this car, and I can’t even express to you how hard it is.

“It’s not a car that likes those conditions, but having lots of data to take from this, for me it’s worth a sit down with the people that designed the car for this year, because there’s elements of this car that can never be changed.”

Compared to the first quarter of the season, Hamilton is looking more comfortable in the car.

While his work adjusting to Ferrari might not pay off this season, it should set him up nicely for the 2026 season.
