The Cubs won the opener on Friday, 11-3, thanks to a franchise-record eight home runs. They couldn’t create that same kind of offensive power against the Cardinals on Saturday, as the Cubs blew a late lead and lost 8-6. Saturday’s game snapped a four-game winning streak for Chicago and a four-game losing streak for St. Louis.
Even with that loss, the Cubs are still in first place in the National League Central by four games over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cubs will send Matthew Boyd to the mound in the finale. He’s pitched well and is 8-3 with a 2.65 ERA on the season.
The Cardinals will counter with Erick Fedde, who’s had his share of struggles this season. Fedde is 3-8 with a 4.56 ERA. He’s given up seven runs in each of his last two starts.
