The 2025 NBA offseason has slowed down dramatically and the Miami Heat have yet to make any sizable moves. However, if one insider gets his wish, the team would make a franchise-altering move.
Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel has suggested that the Heat should look to trade star forward Bam Adebayo this offseason.
Adebayo is the face of the franchise right now. He is one of the most underrated players in the NBA as well.
While trading him would be a major shock, it’s a move that could make sense. As the franchise continues trying to find its way back to championship contention, the window of competing has changed.

Trading Jimmy Butler was the start of that change. Could Miami double down and move on from Adebayo as well and reset its future?
Winderman explained why he thinks the Heat should consider trading Adebayo.
“It is time for the Miami Heat to consider dealing Bam Adebayo,” he wrote. “No, this is not about the naysayers more concerned about Adebayo’s contract or muted scoring impact. He has earned his fair share and he has offered ample offense in support of his accomplished defense. In fact, at the moment it is less about Adebayo than about his team. At the moment, they are not worthy.”
Truthfully, as difficult as it would be to trade Adebayo, Winderman’s reasoning makes sense. Miami is not ready to compete for a championship right now. Adebayo’s window to be an elite player on a championship contender is wide open now.
During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Heat, Adebayo played in 78 games. He averaged 18.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 48.5 percent from the floor and 35.7 percent from the three-point line.

Plenty of top-tier contenders around the league would love to add his skill-set and production. Adebayo could be the missing piece for quite a few teams.
Even though Winderman made a compelling case to consider trading Adebayo, it’s unknown if Miami would even consider the option. Pat Riley may still see the 27-year-old center at the center of his future plans.
It will be interesting to see what the rest of the offseason looks like for the Heat. They have been relatively quiet, but that could change at any time.
